Pattern #C9259 White DAFFODIL FLOWERS, on BLACK w/GOLD, from Tuscan Works in Longton, Staffordshire, England, circa 1947-1960
DESCRIPTION:
The beautiful set was produced in a cheerful white, green, & yellow color palette on black.  The hand painted large daffodils looks so fanciful with their vivid white  petals, yellow centers with orange outlining, and green leaves.
The rims are beautifully trimmed in gold which is bold, bright & shiny.  The white porcelain is on the outside of the cup and on its handle.  The flower centers are a raised enamel orange paint.
CONDITION:
While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb.  There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines.  There are no utensil marks and no wear on the gold on the cup.  The saucer has gold wear on 1/4 of the rim.  See photo #12.  This wear is mainly on the side of the rim, not the top of the rim.
DIMENSIONS:
The footed cup has a diameter of 3 3/4" with a height of 2 3/16" with a height of 2 7/16" to the top of the handle.  The deep saucer has a diameter of 5 7/16" and a height of 1".
HISTORY/MARKS:
The Plant family had been making pottery in Longton in the late 18th century.  About 1900 two Plant brothers established a major factory called Tuscan Works that in 1915 became R.H. & S.L. Plant Ltd.  On the factory building were the words, "Our Work ... Our Pride."  Tuscan Works produced what was considered a fine line of china made by adding bone ash to a clay mixture.  In 1970 the plant was acquired by Wedgwood, the world-famous ceramic maker and by 2006 the plant closed.  The mark on this set is Tuscan Fine English Bone China (R.H. & S.L. Plant, Ltd.) Made in England which Geoffrey A. Godden's Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks,  designates this as mark #3064 used 1947-1960.
